- I'm a 56-year old computer professional and a 7 year cello student, determined to get reasonably good at the instrument, and maybe someday teach others. I also play a home-made washtub bass with a fixed neck, rather like a one-string string bass, designed by Lauren Miller and called a Tub-o-Tone.

I warm up with this bad boy every day. I am told that Janos Starker says, "Double stops are the true beginning of advanced playing". :)
But where elsewhere are you discussing it? The curiosity is killing me.
nice exercise!
Similar circumstances... Joined a community orchestra and hate the blending problems. Best experiences with a latin folk group doing the work of bass, and melody fills. Old Andean, down thru Cuba music is the best. Lots of opportunity! hawkepaks@yahoo.com
